Bird Spotting

Bird spotting becomes addictive visit our designated bird watching areas or keep an eye out from your cottages blue tits, chaffinch, goldfinch, siskin, nuthatch and the woodpecker are regular visitors to the feeders.   House martins nest under the eves of the cottages, buzzards, owls and even the Osprey are seen overhead.

Stay with us, Feel at home

Mammals

Brown Hares boinging daily through the fields at dusk, Wild Otters around the pond or in the river! Deer, frogs, dragonfly, butterflies, .

 Spotting

Keep glancing up on the hills - the Howgills in front of the cottages and the Hills of the Lake District behind are home to wild fell ponies - often seen coming over the tops.

Each of our cottages has a spotter book and we ask all our guests to add any sightings - help us build up a picture of what's living amongst us.

 Fishing

The river Lune runs the whole length of the 120acres here at Brockholes and offers some good fishing with Salmon Sea Trout, Brown Trout  found in the waters.    You'll need your own EA licence and a permit from us.    Although the river is on our property we work with the local Tebay Anglers and we all sign up to abide by their rules.   Please book fishing with us in advance.

New for 2025! - more information coming soon

Habitat Trail

The habitat trail is an exciting children's route across the farm which features habitats for beautiful butterflies, bodacious bees, dainty ladybirds, slimy slugs, freaky frogs and other invertebrates.   Its all about biodiversity

Playground

Dog Walk & Agility

Dogs are welcome at the cottages, we do ask for them to be on a lead in areas, and not to be taken into animal areas.

There is a designated off lead field so they can run and stretch their paws - and get into training for crufts with jumps, climbs and balancing.

Marked Walks

Most requested in 2024 - some additional marked walks through and around the animals and also  including the river walk along the Lune, where you can grab your tiddling net to see what aquatic things you can find - just remember to put them back !  Or through the Ancient woodland keep an eye out for scatts, scratches who lives in a woodland like this...

Staying with us explore further afield

The charming old village of Tebay sits near the eastern fringe of the Lake District National Park and the Western fringe of Yorkshire Dales National Park. With excellent road links the cottages are ideally placed to explore the whole of the Lake District.  A 35 minute drive east brings you to Bowness on Windermere or a drive North will bring you to the beautiful towns and lakes of Keswick.

The village of tebay home to the traditionally whitewashed Cross Keys Inn has been there for 500 years or more. The inn is reputedly haunted by the ghost of the Tebay Witch, Mary Baynes. Along with its better-known neighbours of Kendal, Sedbergh and Appleby-in-Westmorland, the area is surrounded by lovely rolling countryside and beautiful scenery. Nearby Orton has a local pub serving good food, tea rooms and the famous handmade chocolate shop.
